From Dr. John
Please forgive me for not extending my usual cheerful greeting.
I am still reeling from the shock of the sudden transition of my wife Iris after a short stay in hospital due to a massive stroke.  She was my partner for 65 years and wife for 60 years.  She is greatly missed by myself our 3 children, our 4 grand children, and our 2 great grandsons.  I know she is on a wonderful spiritual journey beyond our most spectacular dreams.  Having been freed from human restraints she is enjoying a euphoric spiritual experience.  She has left us with a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered for the rest of my life.

In love and gratitude for all your kind and thoughtful remarks,

Dr. John.

to Dr. John and his family in their time of loss.

At last her gallant Soul took flight

 She’s Only Gone On.

At last her gallant Soul took flight
into the land where there is no night,
but her name is carved in your hearts to stay
as you think of things she used to say.
Her soul has only gone on into a brighter
 more wonderful dawn,
For a lady like “Iris” was not born to die,
But like the sun that shines in the sky,
they warm the earth and the hearts of men
and in happy remembrance, they live again.
So while she sleeps and her voice is still,
Her spirit goes on and always will.

It's summer!!
Although we wouldn't know it with the unpredictable weather we are having.
I guess it has something to do with the unpredictable events
we all seem to have in our lives.
I for one seem to have "this weekend" booked and for sure I know that  "next weekend" is open for new plans.
But, it seems that by Tuesday, next weekend is booked also.
Keeping busy seems to be a way of life in these current times.

I guess that with the alternative being 'not busy' this does somehow seem preferable.
We are moving into the Wedding season, the holiday season,
the 'hang out' season whatever we wish it to be.
I plan to stay only as busy as I choose to be. haha.

CIMM enters the summer with one last meeting and then
we will all take the rest of the summer off. (at least from Board duties.)

Hope everyone has a great summer, and well wishes to you all,

Rev. Connie President.

5  THOUGHTS ON HELPING OTHERS   by  E H SPINA

If you are reading this article, it’s likely you earn your livelihood by helping others.
And even if you are not formally doing this as a profession,
it’s likely you are often called upon to give aid and advice to family,  friends, co-workers and/or loved ones.
It is our nature to want to help others, especially those who are suffering.
As I’ve written before, your entire mission as a majestic spiritual being,  temporarily incarnated here on earth, is to tap into your innermost self and radiate your wisdom, love and energy to the universe.
Your ability to help those in need is related, in large part, to how well connected you are to your innermost self.

The late Indian sage, Nisargadatta Maharaj, based his entire philosophy of helping others around his teaching that, “knowing who you truly are” is the single most important thing you can do to help anyone and consequently the world.
Here are a few of his thoughts on help, taken from his classic book, I Am That, along with both my headings and comments:

  1) Help so that someone no longer needs your help.
“The only help worth giving is freeing from the need for further help. Repeated help is no help at all. Do not talk of helping another, unless you can put him beyond all need of help.”

This is akin to the proverb, “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
Teaching someone a skill puts that person beyond the need for further help.

  2) Help by setting a good example.
“You can help another by your precept and example and,
above all, by your being. You cannot give what you do not have.”

The best teacher is someone who leads by example. As Gandhi said,
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” However,
if you do not already embody the help you wish to offer,
it might be wise to hold off on the helping, since you would not actually be in a position to help, and focus your attention, instead, on the “becoming.” That is, “becoming” the person who is in position to help.

  3) Do not attempt to help when you are emotionally attached to the outcome. “If you really want to help a person, keep away.
If you are emotionally committed to helping, you will fail to help.”

Your emotional commitment to “helping” sends out an energy
that will attract people to you who will satisfy your craving – that is, they’ll need help!  The problem is, this may merely set up a codependent relationship, one that inordinately pulls at you, confounds you and drains you,  with typically little to show in the way of positive change on the part of the one being “helped.”

Your most effective advice comes when you have a detached interest in the outcome. Some will mistake this detachment for “not caring;” but when your intention is pure,it is the highest form of help you can offer. Please note: sending love,
even from afar, can always be used to help others in need.

4) Help in those areas where you already have what they need.

“Ceasing to do evil precedes beginning to do good. Of course, if you have a chance to help somebody, by all means do it and promptly too;  don’t keep him waiting ‘til you are perfect.”

As a long-term mystic once counseled me, “We are all students on the path.  Some who are farther along the path may be called upon to help you;others, who have not traveled as far, may look to you for help.”   Consequently, offer aid to those who ask in those areas where you already have what they need.

 5) The most important help you can offer comes from knowing who you are.

“There is nothing that can help the world more than your putting an end to ignorance. Then you need not do anything in particular to help the world. Your very being is a help, action or no action.”
“First be free of suffering yourself and then only hope of helping others. Your very existence will be the greatest help a man can give to his fellow man.”
“There are people in the world who do more good than all the statesmen and philanthropists put together. They radiate light and peace with no intention or knowledge.”
In the above quotations, the ignorance Nisargadatta refers to is the ignorance of who you truly are … and suffering is the result of this ignorance. When you know and embody the truth of who you really are, you are in a position to do the most good possible for yourself, others and the world.
It goes without saying, but a final adage is: “Don’t offer unsolicited help.” This tendency is usually tied to having an emotional attachment to the outcome. A word of caution: it can backfire miserably, even when someone does ask for it.
A final Nisargadatta quotation, which sums up his philosophy and which points to the state that we all seek to embody:
“If you want to help the world, you must be beyond the need of help. Then, all your doing, as well as not doing, will help the world most effectively.”
We all seek to be self-realized, to know who we truly are. This is our most important “mission on earth” and represents the ultimate gift we can offer to the world.

“HOW’S THAT WORKING FOR YOU?"

Is there anyone reading this who can honestly say they are experiencing a perfect life right here and right now?  I know that we are all perfect, whole and complete as Spiritual Beings,
but we are living in a physical world and we have come here to experience, to learn and to grow.
Is there anyone here with absolutely no problems with Relationships? Money? Health? Career?  Family? Emotions? Spiritual issues? If you can answer yes, then you might just as well stop reading and go and sit in the sunshine and contemplate your navel! Obviously you have already reached Nirvana.  Unfortunately I haven’t. Do you think it might be time to end the drama?
No more excuses, no more ‘yeah but’s’, no more blame, no more whining or moaning about the injustice of the Universe. No more ‘if only’s’, no more ‘when I get this, “I’ll do that’s’. You see, all the excuses, guilt and blame we lay on ourselves or others, [or God]
are just feathers on the Breath of God. They mean absolutely nothing. We have within us the power to accomplish great things and I believe that the biggest problem we have is that we don’t ask for big enough dreams. We choose too small. In Nelson Mandela’s famous speech, he said that our biggest failing was that we tried to keep ourselves small. Who are you to be less than magnificent?
We let our beliefs blind us to the fact that even if we life a hundred lifetimes, they each have a limited time line. This one we are living right now could be over in a heartbeat…what are you waiting for?
I have decided to make these the best, wildest, most prosperous, healthiest, and most memorable years of my life! We come with a wonderful guide as to how our life is working; do you know what it is?  Its how you feel.
So------if you are doing what you’ve always done, and getting what you’ve always got and you don’t feel good about it and you are not willing to do what it takes to change it……………..

“HOW’S THAT WORKING FOR YOU?’

Rev. Yvonne Davidson       Westbank B.C.    resultsplus@telus.net

How many more times are you willing to wish for something and not get it?  Are you fed up yet?  Who do you think has your answers?
Here’s the bottom line…
Only you have your answers. There is no one who is in charge of your experience of life  other than yourself.  Do you think you can entertain that idea?  Have you spent a good deal of your life blaming someone else for your disappointments and dissatisfaction? If so, you are not alone. Have you any idea how to go about creating (co-creating) or attracting what you want?
Do you even know what you want?

Over the many years I have worked with people helping them get clear about what they want  and how to get it, I have found very few who have had the courageto come right out and say right off the bat – what they want.

Most of us have convinced ourselves that we are not good enough to have what we want or that someone or many others are ‘better’ than we are.

I would like you to consider what might seem like a rather new or even radical idea……the idea that we came to this planet through choice and for a reason. That we decided even before we ever entered into physical form to come here, to this 3rd dimensional reality, that we would be of service in some way that is unique to each of us.

I will bet you have, from time to time at least, had the thought that you are here for a reason. Isn’t that true? Maybe you were afraid to say it to anyone because you thought they might think you are nuts; but, deep down, you KNOW that it is true.

I believe there comes a time in each of our lives when we are at conscious choice: We can choose to continue to live in denial of our spiritual beingness and feel good from time to time or WE CAN CHOOSE TO AWAKEN TO OUR SPIRITUAL MAGNIFICENCE and feel the power and presence of Source Energy/God moving through us, as us, and live from that connected place.

You might be thinking: Even if there is any truth to this at all, which I potentially doubt, how on earth am I supposed to figure out how to go about experiencing it?

There are a lot of people who, unfortunately, have had less than great experiences with organized religion and they have decided that ‘GOD’ is not for them.

The sad part of that decision is that they end up losing out on the CONNECTION that is their birthright. We all come to this planet with a basic need to BELONG  and to feel valued and worthwhile.
It is important for us, as human beings, to have a felt a sense of purpose or meaning in our lives.

To the degree we feel connected with God/Source Energy we just know that we are a significant part of a greater whole and that this life that we are living is valuable and worthwhile.

If you do not already believe that, would you like to?
If your answer is ‘YES’ you have just set in motion your ‘intention’.

Here is a simple first step you can take right now.  Put together whatever words work for you, all in the present tense as though everything is occurring right now, and make a statement aloud.

EXAMPLE

“I choose to connect, and feel connected with, the Source of my life. I choose to feel and know that I am a significant part of a greater whole. I choose to believe, at my very core, that my life is valuable and worthwhile. I am open to signs that indicate my connection with Source. I am open to recognizing and heeding the intuitive messages that I am receiving from Source.  I choose to live my life in a way that honors my body, my mind and my Spirit.”

Just before you speak your words, take a couple of minutes to get comfortable.Go to a place, whether in your home, or in nature, and allow yourself to relax. When you speak the words that you have chosen, speak them with passion and conviction.

Once you have spoken your statements, out loud, with passion and conviction, stay alert during your waking hours to be aware of the guidance that you receive. You may be guided to read a certain book, call a certain person, or sit and just take time for yourself in contemplation or even meditation. You may find that certain things are no longer of importance to you and other things are much more important. You may even find you are drawn to certain foods that you did not eat much of before.
It may be helpful for you to journal about what you are experiencing.

Speak your words every day, with passion and conviction.
You may find yourself changing your words to suit various situations that come up for you.

You are becoming aware of yourself at a more conscious level by doing just these simple things.

The Pathway to Source Energy/God/Spirit  (whatever you choose to call the creative source of life itself)  begins with you knowing yourself; and, in time, loving yourself (if you do not already).

I believe that each of us is an individualized expression of Source Energy/God/Life Itself  and that this life is a great gift to be cherished and shared.

Welcome to your journey of Spiritual awakening. You are surrounded by love and light, always and all ways. There are many of us who have chosen to embark on this journey. You are in great company. I trust you will choose to connect with those who are like-minded.

Love and light, Reverend Arlene Rannelli.

There are some very powerful messages in this News Letter about change and creating our life just as we want it to be.
My message on the same subject would be,
“Dream big, feel it, love it and grow into it.”

If you have something interesting that “you” would like to share that’s happening in your center, We would be happy to receive it for the next News Letter, end of September.
Photos are great and give all of us a glimpse of how your center is doing for both Service and social functions.  Let’s get together on this and get to know each other. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
With gratitude!
